Navigating Coverage for Refractive Consultations

Insurance benefits vary significantly depending on your provider and plan. While refractive surgeries like LASIK are typically not covered by insurance, the initial refractive consultation may be covered in some cases. It’s important to note:

  • Refractive consultations are billed under your medical insurance, not vision insurance.
  • If your insurance is not accepted or you do not have coverage, the self-pay fee is $150.
  • Any co-payments or self-pay fees are non-refundable, even if you are not a candidate for refractive surgery. However, these fees will be deducted from the total cost of the LASIK procedure should you move forward with treatment.

Our staff will confirm your insurance eligibility before your appointment and walk you through any anticipated out-of-pocket costs. We aim to ensure that you have a complete and clear understanding of your financial costs, whether with or without coverage, ahead of time.

What to Know Before Your Visit

To ensure a smooth experience, please have your insurance information ready before your appointment. If your insurance plan requires a referral from your primary care physician, it must be received before your visit to avoid incurring out-of-pocket charges. Our team is here to help confirm your requirements and assist in gathering any necessary documentation.

Medical insurance can be confusing, but you don’t have to do it alone. Our experienced staff will help you understand your coverage, explain your financial responsibility, and provide options to make your care more affordable. We also offer flexible financing solutions for patients whose insurance does not cover elective vision correction procedures.
